What An Adventure!

My favorite discovery was the generators was my favorite. I feel that I could play with those all day long. I also found it neat how Youtube could be productive in the classroom. I can honestly say that the 23 things has opened my eyes to whole new world of technology. I felt before the 23 things i was up to par with technology, but now I know I am up to par! I would say an unexpected outcome was the whole fact of using Twitter and Facebook for teachers. I really couldn't see any good coming out of them for teachers but they actually do.

I can truly say I will be using some of these things in my classroom. Some of them are so neat and creative. I feel that today's students would really enjoy blogging. This would also be a great way for me to see what students expect from me as the teacher or their tendencies. One way I will stay involved in Web 2.0 is keeping my eyes open for new applications online and being open to any new way of communications.

Thing #23 Almost home

Creative commons is a great tool to use for every level of thinking. All teachers want to make some kind of difference in a child's life. Of course, all teachers want to be tabbed as original. The use of pictures and diagrams are time consuming. We all want credit for our work.

Thing #21 My Journey

My Journey

I really enjoyed working with Animoto. This could be a very useful website for art teachers. This project could get students to express themselves in a completely different way than before. Students could really enjoy this. This also could be something they could hold on to for the rest of their lives.

Thing #20

This is a classic way of showing students that school can be linked with pop culture! There are plenty of other examples of videos like this to help students learn. I personally feel that students today need motivation that school is cool. This video proves that teachers can be up to date with pop culture and not to mention they can use it in their lesson plans.

This experience was the best for me. I had a blast looking up videos like this one. I plan on using Youtube in my lesson plans to show students different perspectives on a subject.

Thing #19

To be honest I have never been apart of any of these sites. Mainly because I have never seen nor heard about them. I think TeacherPop would be a good one for me. I am always interested in talking to current teachers and picking their brains about how teaching is changing. I like to get all the information I can get. Like I said before, Teacherpop would be something I look into for the future just to see if I can talk to teachers for advice.

Thing #18

http://www.facebook.com/#!/cody.douchane

I believe it is very important to know how to use a social network. The reason for that is one to connect with other teachers across the nation. Another reason is to connect with parents. I am a bigger Twitter guy than Facebook. It is more convient for me to say what I need to say and get off. A great way to use social media is to show parents what all is going on in the classroom with pictures and videos.

Thing #17

I'm officially a fan of delicious! This will for sure be a tool I use in my future classroom. I feel this would be a great instrument for students to use while doing any assignment in any class. I like the fact that so much information is on this site that people can use to their advantage.

Thing #16 Moving Along!

I used igoogle. This was very simple for me because it synced with my gmail account. This will be very valuable to me. The reason being is because I do not have time to go check individual websites for scores from games the night before and check the weather all at the same time.

Next I got the online calendar. I will enjoy having this in the future. With being a head coach and a student, I barely have time to plan anything outside of baseball and school. When my girlfriend wants to have dinner, I can just put it in the calendar and I will not forget it! The reason for this being very nice is because I never carry around a physical calendar around with me, but I can check on my phone and it be there.

The to-do-list is very valuable to me at this time a year. When all the professors are cramming work in at the last minute I can check the to-do-list online and not forget a thing.

I would recommend to anyone I talk to about using the calendar and the to-do-list. These two widgets will help you from losing your insanity and keep your woman happy!

Thing # 15

This thing has got me worked up! It's very confusing and just too complicated for my liking. As of right now until I get a better feel for wikis I won't use this in my classroom. Now that being said, if I ever get the hang of wikis I'd love to use them for my student's parents to look at to get a better idea of what is going on in the classroom!

Thing #14 Flowcharts!!

So with messing around and getting my feet wet in a couple websites (Gliffy and Mindmeister). I think a flow chart would be perfect for a science project in the classroom. Mindmaps would probably benefit students more from the standpoint of making notes for them to study. Now taking that into consideration, I do not think this would be good to present on a test or quiz. I think these applications would only benefit students with the learning process.

Thing #13 Applications!

So when I first got to looking at Zoho, I thought it was a different named Microsoft Word! After playing around with it for a little bit, I have realized this would be a little more convient for some people. I personally think that this would work great if they had not been exposed to Microsoft Word. I'm not saying that it wouldn't work for someone who has, but it would benefit people who haven't more. https://writer.zoho.com/index.do?docId=2508947000000013004

I like Zoho better than Google Docs. I feel that Zoho would be easier to use for students than Google Docs as well.

Thing #12 GOOGLE!

Google has expanded so much in the last 3 years. I actually use Google calendars and I love it! Here is the link to my birthday schedule: https://www.google.com/calendar/render?pli=1 It was good one thanks for asking haha. Anyhow, I have never used Google maps though. I hear it's really good for getting directions and things of that nature. I think Google maps can be used in a classroom setting.History teachers can use this to their advantage. If they can pull it up they might not need a physical map on hand to show students where different countries are located.

Thing #10

RSS is very impressive. I think this could help future teachers with teaching today's children. I think having all the articles in one spot will be helpful to me because I don't have to go track down a certain blog. The reason for that being is because it will be with all the blogs that are targeted for me! I think RSS will be very benefitical to me in the coming years as I get ready to go into the real world as a teacher. Not to mention, this would be great to get quick painless feedback.

Thing #9 YAWN!

http://www.imagechef.com/ic/make.jsp?tid=Baseball

http://www.comicstripgenerator.com/creator.asp?cartoon=gotham-batman-comics

This is probably my favorite thing I've done for these things. The way I did this was I used the generators that Mrs. Wall gave us. There were several options that I had to pick from. I being a baseball coach, I used that generator and I'm a big batman fan. I thought it would be pretty neat to have Batman on my blog. This could be used in a library to endorse a certain book or get the kids to read.

Thing #8!!! Let's get it

Puffy Sticker Letter C       So I do like this app. I find this kind of stuff very amusing and it has a little
throwback touch. In a science class I don't think this could be used, but in an art
class I feel like this could be very productive. I have used this in my personal life.
I've got three or four things like this in my bedroom. I think that art teachers should
use Flickr in their classroom. I am still a little uncomfortable about photo sharing
online. I feel like that until I play with it more.
Ice Tray Letter O

my type concho letter d

Wooden brick letter Y

Thing #5

After reading the perspectives, it brings flashbacks of when I was in elementary school. Everything was so basic and I guess flat is the word I'm trying to say. When I got into middle school was the first time I actually got to use a computer on the daily bases. Today's kids seem more prepped for technology. We as teachers must get ahead of the curve so we can prepare our students for the future which they must be able to grasp it. School 2.0 means many different things to me. It says we need to incorparate technology into every lesson possible. Then it means where us teachers need to be before we start teaching.

Thing #6

The tool I decided to use was Pandora. I'm a huge music fan, but with a busy schedule who has the time to sit on Youtube and pick every song. With Pandora, it's an online music channel. The beautiful thing about Pandora is you select an artist you want to listen to and you select that channel. It's literally that simple. The funny thing about that is, I have Pandora going on my computer as I type up this blog haha! I do not think this tool would be able to be used for any school classroom, but it is great for when your doing homework!

Thing #7

Wow.... That took me too long. I don't think I could possibly take any longer on one thing. I have fought this thing for about 3 hours. Talk about killing me. Anyhow, Flickr and I do not get along too well at the moment. I think when I have the time to work with it on my own I might be able to figure it out. This is a picture I found on Flickr. Thanks to Eric Eckel. Eric and share a common passion. That common passion is Cincinnati Reds baseball! I am a huge Reds fan. Now that they are in the playoffs, I found it very fitting to post this picture. As of right now, I probably would not use Flickr in my classroom until I got more comfortable with it. I have never used any picture services before. I don't feel too comfortable with my personal pictures being shared publicly.

Thing #3 I'm well on my way now!

Before starting this class, I thought blogging was like a Facebook or a Twitter. Thinking that it was just another way to communicate with people. Now that I am an official blogger, i guess it could be said that this is a good tool to use in the classroom. I never min my wildest dreams would have thought blogging could have been productive in any form or fashion. Teachers could use this for anything really. I'm sure it could be a great tool for students to understand concepts in the classroom. One way it would help me in my classroom is to help students with homework or on study guides. I know how I am in a classroom filled with at least twenty more people. I'm the kind of guy that's not going to stand up and yell every answer to every question that the teacher asks a class. I am reserved to my thoughts. Going back to thing1, I struggle to have confidence in myself and I fear of having the wrong answer and being that guy who got that question wrong. Blogs could help that one student out who doesn't like talking to teachers face to face to ask questions or talking among a small crowd. Another great way to use blogs in the classroom is make it an assignment. Today's kids are far ahead of any generation that's come before. Us as teachers must be prepared to teach technology and put it in our curriculum.

Thing #2

Well after all that struggling on getting this set up I finally got it down... I think. So I got my name from the school I coach at. We are the Colonels, and I found it fitting to put running before it. Then, I added the number twenty-nine because that was and still is the number I wear to play and coach. So my username became runningcolonel29. The process of getting this up by myself was pretty tough not going to lie on that one. I struggled to figure out I didn't have to start up another thread of blogs. I sat behind this computer screen pulling my hair out (the few I have left) trying to figure out why nothing was transferring over. When I went back to the blog I did in class and added everything back, it all started coming back to me. Once I got everything figured out, it has become easier.

Now for my avatar. I think it looks alot like me actually. The hair on it look exactly just like mine. I find it quite funny that something could look just like me. I think the only thing missing from my avatar is a baseball uniform, but other than that I think it looks just like me. The avatar shows my personality just a little bit. I didn't get too detailed into it, but he shows me on my best days.

Thing #1

Wow, I've never try this blogging before so we will see how this goes. As I got to looking over the habits, right off the bat I noticed the very first habit is very easy for me. I've never had a problem with seeing the end of the tunnel when I start something. With that being said, every college student should be able to have the end in mind. I think that having the end in mind can drive a student through out their college career and in life as well. I believe that it can have a huge impact on a student succeeding or failing not to mention you can tell if that person has any drive to them. When having the end in mind of something goals can be set up to help a person along the way. For example, for college I set up my goals for each year to make sure I carry a 3.0 GPA.
The hardest habit for me is habit number four. I struggle at times with having confidence in myself with what I have learned. I doubt myself and the learning process I have used in the past to absorb information. That was one of the biggest fears I had about coming to college. I have learned new techniques to learn and study habits to enable me to soak in the information.
